Finding Happiness from a Different Source

Where do you think happiness comes from?

Most of us look for happiness in external things—food, friends, work, homes, technology, money, adventure, and more. Yet even when we have these things, we can still feel unsatisfied, as if something is missing. At times, these same things can also bring stress, worry, and disappointment.

In this free introductory talk, we’ll gently explore a different perspective: that happiness and suffering are states of mind. By understanding our own mind, we can begin to discover a deeper, more reliable source of happiness—one that doesn’t depend on changing circumstances.

Join Buddhist nun Kelsang Yonchen for an inspiring and practical talk that introduces simple meditations and methods for cultivating genuine, lasting happiness through inner peace. No prior experience is needed—everyone is welcome.

Kelsang Yonchen is the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Centre Aberdeen. She has been practising Kadampa Buddhism for over 14 years and was ordained as a Buddhist nun in 2023. Yonchen is known for her warm heart, practical wisdom, and clear, accessible teaching style that makes Buddha’s teachings easy to understand and apply in daily life.

Weekly Classes Begin Wed 11 Feb 7 – 8pm

Living A Meaningful Life – Feb 11, 18, 25

What does it mean to live a meaningful life?

When our life comes to an end, what will truly matter? What qualities will we be remembered for?

Deep within, we all long for a life filled with purpose—a life that benefits our own heart and the hearts of others. Meaning is not something we find outside ourselves; it grows from the intentions we cultivate and the wisdom we develop within.

In this uplifting meditation course, we’ll be guided by timeless spiritual teachings, peaceful meditations, and practical methods for daily life. These will help us awaken to the precious opportunity of this human life and learn how to use each moment wisely, compassionately, and with a joyful sense of purpose—starting right now.

Wk1: A precious opportunity
Wk 2: No time to waste
Wk 3: Creating a better world
