Foundation Programme

Thursdays 7 -9pm

If you wish to deepen your experience of Buddha’s teachings, and find greater meaning and lasting happiness in life, you will enjoy the Foundation Program (FP).

Joining FP involves enrolling for a book, trying to attend all the classes, and taking an exam at the end of each section approximately once a year.

By committing to a regular study program and studying in a group with like-minded people you can benefit from the support of a spiritual community to energise and sustain your spiritual life.

Each class consists of short chanted prayers, a guided meditation, the oral transmission of the book with commentary and discussion. The classes are systematic and interactive and students find that their knowledge and wisdom grows week by week as a result.

This special way of learning increases our mindfulness of the teachings and in this way we gain great ability to apply them practically in daily life.  Finally you will be able to turn your initial spiritual insights into stable and long lasting spiritual transformation.

The classes are similar in format and depth to college-level classes and the program is based on a systematic study of six Kadampa Buddhist texts.

It is possible to join this program in person or online.

Gen Kelsang Drolkar is resident teacher at KMC Aberdeen. She is a joyful and dedicated practitioner who has been teaching Kadampa Buddhism since 2013. She has worked at Kadampa Meditation Centres all over the UK and has engaged in many meditation retreats at Kadampa Centres internationally. When teaching, Gen Drolkar combines her diverse personal experience with practical insight and a warm heart.

Joyful Path of Good Fortune is clear and comprehensive explanation of the entire path to enlightenment. We all have the potential for self-transformation, and a limitless capacity for the growth of good qualities, but to fulfil this potential we need to know what to do along every stage of our spiritual journey.

With this book, Geshe Kelsang offers us step-by-step guidance on the meditation practices known as Lamrim that will lead us to lasting inner peace and happiness. With extraordinary clarity, he presents all Buddha’s teachings in the order in which they are to be practised, enriching his explanation with stories and illuminating analogies. This is a perfect guidebook to the Buddhist path.

The practice of Lamrim is very important because everyone needs to cultivate peaceful states of mind. By listening to or reading these teachings we can learn how to control our mind and always keep a good motivation in our heart. This will make all our daily actions pure and meaningful.

"It has been a wonderful year for me regarding my Dharma practice through being able to take part in so many online courses. I feel a great amount of gratitude for this when so many people have struggled and lost so much this past year."
