Set in an idyllic retreat venue in tranquil surroundings facing the ocean. Between meditations you can enjoy walking by the sea and on the coastal path, sitting in the garden by the stream or even enjoying the wood fired hot tub.
The power of silence
Normally we are constantly distracted by external objects, busy activities and scattered thoughts. Observing silence is a powerful method to disengage us from busyness and to deepen our contemplation and concentration. The retreat will include silent periods and participants are asked to switch off their phones for the duration of the retreat.
The retreat
Train in concentration in ideal retreat conditions and discover the joy of silence. With distractions we cannot accomplish anything, whereas with concentration we gain the ability to accomplish our goals. Learn practical and powerful methods for developing pure concentration and see how inner stillness is not far away.
In busy daily life it is rare to experience even a few moments of mental peace and tranquillity. But simply through stepping out of our normal busyness and focusing on meditation for just a few days we can achieve extraordinary blissful states of mind that show us the great potential within our mind for happiness and peace.
Guided retreat by Gen Kelsang Tubchen, a modern Buddhist nun with over 20 years of experience of engaging in and guiding retreats. She will lead the meditations each day so that we can develop our concentration and our experience of inner peace.
The retreat will use the instructions on training in Tranquil Abiding Concentration and participants will be guided to choose an appropriate object to focus on for the retreat.
It is highly recommended that you listen to the weekly classes on concentration prior to the retreat. You will learn many techniques that will be practiced during the retreat.
This 4 day meditation retreat takes place over a bank holiday weekend and is open to all levels of practitioner, including beginners.

- The retreat is run by volunteers and participants are expected to join in as part of the retreat experience with small jobs to help the retreat run smoothly.

- Cancellations up to 4 weeks prior to the course will receive a full refund minus a 10% admin fee, Cancellations up to 1 week before receive 50% refund. No refund for cancellations made in the week prior to the retreat.

Please note – single rooms are extremely limited. We encourage people to share in twin, triple or dorm rooms, all of which are of a very high and comfortable standard. We will allocate people to either female or male shared rooms. Sharing with other participants can enhance the retreat experience.
If you want a single room and there are none available ask to be placed on a waiting list for a single, or there is a lot of accommodation available locally, all of which is walking distance to the course venue.

Accommodation includes: 3 nights, all meals, teaching & cleaning costs.
The accommodation is simple but of high standard. Solid wooden beds, with high quality comfortable mattresses and fresh bed linen. Some rooms are ensuite others have nearby facilities. The dorms have very comfortable bunkbeds in them with individual lights and are high enough to sit comfortably in bed.
There are 12 bedrooms in total: 2 three bed room, 4 twin rooms, 2 singles, a four bed dorm and a 6 bed dorm. In addition there is space behind the building next to the small burn and garden for campers and space in front for camper vans, all of whom will have access to toilets and showers.
There is a common living room and dining room with an open fire for use by retreat participants.
For those thinking of organising accommodation away from the retreat centre there is a caravan park next door, as well as nearby hotels and holiday accommodation.

The retreat takes place over a bank holiday weekend
The meditation sessions will take place in The Salmon Bothy, which is a short walk along the beach from the sail loft. For those with mobility problems you can drive and park easily at both venues.
It will be possible to return to the sail loft between sessions or to stay in the course room which also has tea and coffee facilities and toilets.
Each session will include essential teachings and guided meditations. The mornings will include some silent periods between sessions.
There are breaks between sessions and in the afternoon to take walks in the beautiful surroundings.

Full instructions on how to train will be given in our 4 – week ‘Stillness Within’ course from 14 March to 4 April in Aberdeen (and available online) . This course is the ideal preparation for the retreat and it is possible to receive these teachings as a correspondence student by download if you are not able to attend in person.
The retreat itself goes gradually into silence allowing each person their own inner space to take their meditation and contemplation to deeper levels and to enjoy the inner quiet that comes as distractions die down.
Between meditations there is time to enjoy being peaceful outdoors, to walk or sit in nature and to keep comtemplating the retreat techniques.
The teacher will give short guiding points throughout to help participants to get the most from their retreat. It is also possible to ask questions either written or in person at any time.
On the final day there is a group lunch and everyone comes gradually out of silence to share experiences and enjoy the company of others before returning home.

Gen Kelsang Tubchen is the Resident Teacher at KMC Aberdeen. An inspiring and gifted teacher who ordained as a Buddhist nun in 2003, she is loved for her warm heart, her caring attitude and her clear, powerful and practical teachings.
