July 12 – Refuge Ceremony & Teachings

In these challenging and uncertain times everyone needs the ability to turn to the inner protection of spiritual experience.

Normallly we try to protect ourselves by constantly changing and improving our external situation but still we experience a great deal of suffering and unhappiness.

There is refuge, direction, purpose, hope and meaning in this impure world.

Drawing constant inspiration from Buddha’s teachings, example and living presence in the world, connecting to the encouragement and example of the spiritual practitioners around us and deeply practicing the teachings we have received – in this way we can build an unshakeable inner refuge and protection.

In the final session the meaning, benefits, and commitments of Buddhist refuge practice will be explained and an optional Refuge Vow Ceremony will be offered for those who wish to take refuge vows and formally become a Buddhist.
